You are invited to attend a flag-raising ceremony at North Division to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day and Indigenous History Month.
National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21) is a day recognizing and celebrating the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples of Canada. National Indigenous History Month is celebrated each June across Canada and provides an opportunity to recognize not only the historic contributions of Indigenous peoples to the development of Canada, but also the strength of present-day Indigenous communities and their promise for the future.
The DRPS will be marking the occasion with a flag-raising ceremony at DRPS North Division. Flags at each division and at Headquarters will also be raised in solidarity for this event. Members of the North Division leadership team and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Unit will join members of the Council for the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation at the event.
WHEN: Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.
WHERE: DRPS North Division Outside Main Doors, 15765 Hwy 12, Port Perry, Ontario
WHAT: The DRPS will raise a custom-made flag that features the medicine wheel at North Division and also at all DRPS facilities with appropriate flag poles. These flags will be flown until Sunday, June 30th.
