Come out and cheer police memorial Run & Ride

Come out and cheer the Durham Region Police Services (DRPS) team of cyclists and runners on the annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial run and ride.

Every September officers and civilians gather in Ottawa to honour their fallen comrades at the Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day Service on Parliament Hill.

The Ride To Remember members began their ride yesterday (September 25) from the Ontario Police College in Alymer. Today, at 8:30 am, riders and runners will meet at the Ontario Police Officers’ Memorial and to begin their journey to Ottawa.

The run and ride aims to raise awareness about the National Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Service and gives members the opportunity to pay tribute to colleagues and comrades who have fallen in the line of duty. DRPS has a team of runners participating in the 460 kilometre run and a team of cyclist taking part in the 700 kilometre ride. These members are proud to represent DRPS in honouring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Canadian Police Memorial Ride to Remember members will be cycling through Pickering along Highway 2 starting at 8:15 am – arriving at East Division in Bowmanville at 9:45 am The 12-member DRPS Run To Remember team will arrive in Pickering (Highway 2 at Altona Road) at 12:00 pm., enroute along Highway 2 to Newtonville.

1. Altona Road, Pickering to Westney Road, Ajax – 1200hrs (10 Kms) (Staging area)
2. Westney Road, Ajax to Anderson Street, Whitby – 1300hrs (10 Kms)
3. Anderson Street, Whitby to Centerfield Drive, Clarington – 1400hrs (10 Kms)
4. Centerfield Drive, Clarington to Liberty Street, Bowmanville – 1500hrs (10 Kms)
5. Liberty Street, Bowmanville to Stephenson Road, Newcastle – 1500hrs (10 Kms)
6. Stephenson Road, Newcastle to East Townline Road, Newtonville – 1600hrs (10 Kms)
7. East Townline Road, to Highway 401 Overpass, Newtonville – 1600hrs (10 Kms)
