K-9 Unit Live: domestic dispute, missing elderly…

The Canine Unit of Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) was out last night on a live tweet mission.

In the very first hour they responded to calls about an unwanted person, a break-in and a domestic dispute followed by a missing elderly man.

Wonder how the shift ended for Cst. Wes King and K9 Klutch and DRPS Media Officer, PC George Tudos. Their tour started at 7:30 pm.

By 8pm they were already responding to their first call.

“We are officially hitting the road with Cst. Wes King and K9 Klutch for the evening on the first #tweetalong with B platoon...had to let Klutch out to stretch his legs…and responding to our first call,” said the first tweet.

“Unwanted person on Rosehill and King St in Oshawa. Male refusing to leave private propert,” said the next dispatch adding shortly after that the “male has fled and we have cleared the call and driving for now in Oshawa till the next call.

“Klutch needs to get out and stretch his legs K9 Klutch is just anxious to work. He is 2 and half years and bred in Canada. He is a Belgian Malinois. Known to be sociable but focused when it comes to work.”

Next was a break-in. “We are dispatched to a break and enter in progress. K9 Klutch more info to follow shortly. Whitby area.”

However, officers from DRPS Central West Division got to the break and enter first.

“We were called off but we will be assisting on another call for a domestic disturbance off Brock Street in Whitby. K9 Klutch will sit this one out. We have cleared the domestic dispute and heading back to Oshawa area. Officers had everything under control,” said the tweet.

Missing Elderly

“We have been dispatched for a missing vulnerable elderly male near Costco lot in Oshawa. Male with a tanned complexion who may be lost. Wearing blk jacket grey pants. K9 Klutch will be deployed and search the area,” said the next tweet around 9:30 pm.

“We checked the Costco parking lot and will be helping frontline officers with searching other areas the male may frequent. It’s getting cold out.

“Frontline officers will continue to search Whitby and Oshawa for 82-year old Bernard Maclean. K9 has been called to Ritson Road to assist for a Domestic Dispute involving a[n] agitated male,” said a tweet around 10 pm.

Later last night the missing man was found. “The 82-year old vulnerable male was located and in good health. The Duty Inspector will be returning him home to Whitby. Thanks for all the Rts.”
