Oshawa ‘Mayor for a Day’ to be sworn in Dec 10

The swearing in of the 2019 Mayor for a Day will be held on Tuesday, December 10 in Council Chamber in Oshawa.

On that date, a grade 6 student from St. Hedwig Catholic School will enjoy a private tour of City Hall, lunch with the Mayor at their favourite restaurant, an all-access pass to Oshawa Executive Airport, Animal Services, Fire Hall 5 and more, said a city media release.

The Mayor for a Day contest was held as part of the city’s Local Government Week initiative (October 20-26), which aims to increase youth and public awareness about the important role local government plays in our communities.

The contest was open to Oshawa students in grades 5, 6, and 7, and asked interested students to write a letter explaining why they wanted to be mayor for a day and to detail their vision for the future of Oshawa.
