Durham police yesterday issued a traffic alert for the Township of Uxbridge warning some of the roads being extremely slippery.
Snow squalls off Georgian Bay hare expected to re-intensify for Wednesday and possibly into Thursday for some areas, especially in northern Durham, according to Environment Canada.
The region of Northern Durham has been advised to expect reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow and additional local snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm.
Due to high winds, Uxbridge is advising residents to look out for fresh snowfall and wind gusts reaching up to 45kmh, saying road conditions in open areas have deteriorated rapidly.
Lake Ridge Road
Police are advising drivers to avoid Lake Ridge Road near Scugog Line 12 due to extremely poor visibility, extremely slippery and drifting snow.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find an alternate route if possible. “Please slow down, increase your following distance, and drive with caution.”
Drifting snow is also rapidly worsening across other open rural roads.
For safety reasons Uxbridge will temporarily remove snowplows from rural roads. Operating plows during whiteout conditions poses a significant risk to both operators and the public, it said.
Crews will resume full winter maintenance operations as soon as it is safe to do so. Please stay safe and avoid unnecessary risks, said the township.
Travel will likely be hazardous. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Road closures are possible.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
