Stolen car in ditch leads K9 unit to Break-and-Enter artists

Durham police yesterday said two suspects were arrested after fleeing a single vehicle collision in Clarington.

On Friday, January 23, around 3:10 am, officers responded to a check-on-well-being call after a vehicle was located in a ditch. The K9 Unit arrived on scene and determined that the vehicle was stolen. With the assistance of officers from East Division, K9 tracked two individuals to a commercial building in Clarington, where they were arrested.

During the search of the vehicle, officers seized a large quantity of stolen cigarettes, lottery tickets, point-of-sale terminals and break-and-enter tools, police said.

Through further investigation, it was determined that the suspects were connected to two commercial break-and-enters in the immediate area, prior to the collision. Investigators have since charged the suspects in relation to five commercial break-and-enters across the region.

The suspects are a man aged 31 from Clarington and another man aged 59 from Oshawa. At the time of their arrest, both men were violating probation orders.

Both men were held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
