1,245 covid cases in Durham; 161 deaths

Durham Region Health Department yesterday said 1,245 Covid-19 cases have been reported in the region since February 29.

The count on Saturday had stood at 1,226.

Of the total cases, 38 are hospitalized, of which 6 are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Deaths total 161, of which 137 were in long term care homes (LTCH). Recoveries number 902.

Durham Health yesterday updated the overall community-wide Covid breakdown. The highest number of cases at 458 were in Pickering followed by 327 in Ajax and 205 in Oshawa.

Death Toll:

  • Of the 85 reported deaths in Pickering, 83 were in LTCH
  • Of the 33 reported deaths in Ajax, 30 were in LTCH
  • Three deaths were reported in Whitby [none in LTCH] – no change
  • Of the 23 reported deaths in Oshawa, 15 were in LTCH
  • Seven deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH] – no change
  • Ten deaths were reported in Uxbridge, nine in LTCH
  • No deaths have been reported in Scugog or Brock – no change
