50-year old charged with historic sex assault

A 50-year-old Ajax male has been charged with historical sexual assault on a minor, Durham Police said yesterday.

On January 29, investigators from the Sexual Assault Unit arrested a male after allegations were made by a victim, who was a young child at the time, about offences that took place from 1993 to 2000.

The historic sexual assaults took place at the suspects house in Pickering and Ajax. The suspect befriended the victim and sexually assaulted him on several occasions. The suspect claimed to be a foster dad for homeless teenage boys. However he has no affiliation to any services as a foster parent. Investigators want to ensure there are no other victims, said a police media release.

David Belak, age 50 of Woodhouse Crescent, in Ajax, is charged with Sexual Assault x5; Invitation to Sexual Touching x2; Sexual Interference and Sexual Exploitation. He was held for a bail hearing.

Anyone with new information that could help investigators is asked to contact D/Cst. Baldini of the Major Crime – Sexual Assault Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5233.
