Durham police yesterday said a 24-year-old female is facing numerous firearms-related charges after a domestic-related incident in Oshawa on Saturday.
On August 8 at about 12 pm members of Central East Division responded to a residence in the area of Wilson Road South and Dean Avenue in Oshawa for an armed person call. The female suspect arrived at a residence in a taxi and when she exited the taxi, she pistol-whipped the driver and fled on foot, said a police statement.
The female then gained entry into a nearby residence by smashing the window with the firearm. The occupants fled the scene with a 10-day old infant as they were concerned for their safety. It appears that this incident stemmed from a custody dispute, police said.
The suspect fled from the area. However, officers located her in Bowmanville. She was taken into custody without incident. The taxi driver sustained minor injuries.
Police have not yet located the firearm used in the offences.
The female is charged with 17 criminal charges including: Break and Enter; Use Firearm During Commission of Offence x2; Assault with a Weapon; Fraudulently Obtain Transportation and Breach Probation. She was held for a bail hearing.
Anyone with new information is asked to contact Det. Graff of the Central East Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2741.
