Durham Police said two suspects face numerous charges after defrauding victims of their Scene points at various Cineplex locations.
Between August, 2019 and September, 2020, the suspects defrauded numerous victims. They used their cellphones to fraudulently obtain points from their victims. The points would then be used to make numerous purchases at movie theatre locations. Investigators were able to identify 40 victims and the value of the fraud is over $7,500, said a police statement
Abdullah Muhammad, age 22, of Cluett Drive in Ajax and Mohammad Bakroun, age 20, of Harbord Crescent in Ajax face a combined 46 charges including: Personation with Intent to Gain Advantage; Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5,000; Unauthorized Use of Credit Card Data and Fraud Under $5,000.
They were released on an Undertaking.
