Shots fired near a Whitby park, van damaged

Durham Police are attempting to identify suspect(s) after gunshots were heard near Ash Creek Park in Whitby Sunday early morning.

On September 15 at 2:15 am, members of Central West Division were called to the area of Hickory Street in Whitby after reports of gunshots. Police checked the area with negative results. With the assistance of witnesses, shell casings were located nearby and also a van was located which had it’s window damaged from the shots being fired.

Several minutes after the shots were fired, a vehicle was heard leaving at a high rate of speed.

There are no descriptors at this time. Investigators are asking citizens in the area to check their properties for damage and review any video surveillance footage available, especially between 2 am and 2:30 am on Sunday morning.
