51 tickets in two days for seatbelt, phone violations

North Division officers of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) have issued 51 tickets in just two days for seatbelt and phone violations while driving.

North Division is on a year-long project ‘Northern Focus’ to reduce collisions at major intersections in Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

Its officers conducted a successful two-day seatbelt/cell phone initiative, and in just those two days, they issued 51 tickets, 6 cautions, 4 suspensions and 1 impaired arrest.

“Please wear your seatbelt and only use your phone on hands free while driving,” said a police alert.

Previously, in just three days, DRPS North Division stalwarts arrested six drivers, issued 84 tickets, 15 cautions, and 4 criminal charges, plus numerous driving suspensions and impounds.
