It was another fruitful day for stalwarts of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) when their eagle-eyed officers spotted traffic violations and hopefully gave some drivers a reason not to repeat offences.
In the first instance, DRPS East Division officers stopped a vehicle on Green Road and Remmington Street in Bowmanville in the Municipality of Clarington.
They found three children, aged from 3-months to 5 years, in the vehicle (top image).
The kids were not properly secured, nor were their car seat bases anchored, police said.
The driver was fined $720 ($240 for each child) and awarded two demerit points.
Zipping Merrily Through A Stop Sign While On Phone, Not So Merry After
It was the stalwarts of the DRPS East Division again who spotted a driver zipping through a stop sign while chatting away on their cellphone.
The driver was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign, while on cell phone (image above). The incident happened at Britannia Avenue East and Raike Drive in Oshawa, officers said.
The driver got a fine of $110 for failing to stop at the stop sign, another $615 for driving while on the phone – total fine of $725 – and three demerit points.
The first offence driver also faces a three-day day licence suspension upon conviction, police said.
Tow Trucks Under Scrutiny
DRPS North Division Traffic and DRPS Road Safety officers yesterday conducted tow trucks and commercial motor vehicle (CMV) inspections in the Township of Scugog (image above).
Tow operators must follow the rules ensuring safety and customer protection, police said.
