Freed sex offender back in action… and also back in custody

A recently released sex offender was back in action committing indecent acts on DRT buses, and is back in custody, according to Durham police.

On October 7, police issued a public safety advisory regarding a man, who had recently been released after serving a sentence for multiple sexual assault-related offenses and was residing in Oshawa.

The suspect has since been rearrested and is now facing several new charges, police said.

On December 16, officers from the Central East Division responded to a report of an indecent act on a Durham Region Transit (DRT) bus.

A complainant advised that a male passenger was observed masturbating on the bus. The bus driver was notified, and the individual was removed from the bus near Gibb Street in Oshawa, according to police.

On December 27, officers received a second report involving the same male, who was observed committing the same offence on another DRT bus. Officers attended the scene, located the individual, and took him into custody.

Police are asking members of the public who may have information about these or similar incidents to come forward.

The man aged 52, of Oshawa was charged and was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Dellipizzi of the Central East Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2766.
