Durham police investigators have made 64 arrests and laid 155 charges during a safe shop initiative that took place across Durham Region.
As a result, 64 persons were arrested, leading to 155 charges. Seventeen of those arrests resulted in 32 charges related to LCBO thefts. Thirty-eight of the 155 charges laid included breach related offenses according to police.
Between November 10 and December 16 members of the East Division Community Response Unit (CRU) led an initiative that focused on retail theft enforcement.
Members of the CRU Unit, with the assistance of front-line officers, worked in partnership with the LCBO Resource Protection Unit to identify high theft locations across Durham Region.
This initiative maintained a highly visible presence of officers in order to deter criminal activity and provide safety and security to the community.
This initiative was possible with funding from the Community Safety and Policing Grant.
