Suspected impaired driver turns out to have gun, drugs

Durham police yesterday said a firearm was located in a vehicle after officers conducted a traffic stop in Whitby.

On Sunday, December 28, at around 3 am, members from Central West Division were on proactive patrol in the area of Dundas Street and Brock Street South when they observed a motor vehicle leaving a private parking lot showing possible signs of impairment.

Officers stopped the motor vehicle and spoke with the driver. As the driver was providing his documents, a black handgun was seen by officers. Both the driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.

During a subsequent search of the motor vehicle, officers located a quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The suspects are two men from Toronto, one aged 21 and the other aged 22. Both men were held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
