Beware of Covid-19 scams, says police

The Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) maybe a pandemic and a credible threat to ourselves, but that doesn’t stop scammers, fraudsters and fly-by-night operators to take advantage of human misery to make a quick buck.

DRPS has warned that criminals have been quick to cash in on Covid-19 public concerns.

“As Fraud Prevention Month continues new scams connected to the Covid-19 virus are emerging,”it said in a tweeted warning to Durham residents.

“Watch out for fraudulent emails claiming to sell treatment products, scammers selling masks that are never sent or fraudsters offering tax refunds because of the virus,” pointed out.
