Cannabis leads to loaded gun… and more drugs

Durham police yesterday said a 28-year-old male and a 31-year-old female were arrested after a traffic stop in Pickering led to the discovery of a loaded handgun.

On July 15 at about 2:30 am, a member of West Division stopped a black Nissan Rogue in the complex at 1580 Kingston Road in Pickering. The officer observed cannabis readily available in the vehicle. The female driver and male passenger were arrested. During the investigation, officers located a loaded handgun, and a small amount of drugs.

Brianna Pickering, age 31, of Pickering Parkway in Pickering and Shaka Hibbert, Age 28, of Horsley Hills Drive in Toronto face a combined 17 charges including: Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm; Careless Storage of a Firearm; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Have Care and Control of Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available.

They were held for a bail hearing.
