Car arson suspect tries to force-hitch a ride out

Durham Police, on Tuesday morning, arrested a 24-year-old male for arson and robbery  in Ajax.

On May 12 at about 5 am, members of West Division responded to the area of Church Street and Bayly Street in Ajax for a fully engulfed white pick-up truck in the area. While fire crews worked on the fire, the suspect stopped a citizen in order to get a ride. The citizen refused and the suspect forced the male out of his vehicle. The suspect attempted to take the vehicle but was held by fire crews until police arrived. The suspect was arrested at the scene.

The civilian didn’t suffer any physical injuries.

Andre Graham of Bloor Street in Oshawa is charged with: Arson Causing Damage; Robbery and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He was held for a bail hearing.

Investigators are looking for any citizens who witnessed the incident or if anyone has dash-cam video of the events to contact D/Cst. Chrzan of the West Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2565.
