Car Theft: Make sure your Toyota, Lexus are secured

A 19-year old has been arrested for organized car thefts across Toronto area. He is reported to be involved in the theft of 36 cars worth a total value of more than $1 million.

Kevin Ramnaraine of Montreal faces 71 charges.

Between November 20, 2018 to December 22, he was engaged in an organized automobile theft operation. The organized gang targeted only high-end newer model Lexus and Toyota vehicles in the early hours of the morning.

The approximate value of 36 stolen vehicles is $1.26 million.

On Friday, July 19, Ramnaraine was arrested and charged with:

1) 35 counts of Theft of a Motor Vehicle

2) 35 counts of Commit Indictable Offence for Criminal Organization

3) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

He is scheduled to appear next in court at College Park, on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at 10 a.m., room 505.

Police tips to prevent your car from being stolen:

– Park in well-lit area
– Do not leave car running or keys in car
– Steering Wheel Club lock
– Wheel Boot/Chock
– OBD (On Board Diagnostic) Port Lock
– Aftermarket Ignition Kill Switch
– Intelligent radio-frequency identification (RFID) car immobilizer
– Aftermarket Alarm System
– Place keys in Faraday bag
– Park in garage
