Driver leaves car on Hwy 401 and flees traffic stop

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said a man fled a vehicle when it was stopped for a traffic check.

The K-9 unit was called out but was unsuccessful in finding the escaped driver, who left his vehicle on the highway.

“Officers attempted to stop a vehicle near Hwy 401 and Simcoe St and male driver fled on foot. Officers searching area. No immediate threat to public safety,” said a police tweet early yesterday afternoon.

“Officers have cleared the area of Simcoe St near Hwy 401 after a male fled from a traffic stop,” said the DRPS tweet.

“Investigation is still ongoing. Male has evaded police. The driver left his vehicle on Highway,” it added.

No further details were available till late last night.
