Eight Oshawa wedding guests test covid positive

Durham Region Health Department is urging anyone who attended a wedding on September 19 at the Caribbean Cultural Centre, 600 Wentworth St. E., Oshawa, to contact the Health Department as soon as possible at 905-668-4113, ext. 2680.

The Health Department said it has been notified of eight cases of Covid-19 associated with this event and is having difficulty obtaining a full list of attendees and their contact information.

“The Health Department is aware that approximately 50 guests and eight to 10 staff and volunteers attended this event. As a result of the eight positive cases of Covid-19, an outbreak has been declared at this wedding that took place at the Caribbean Cultural Centre,” said a Durham Health statement.

Health Department staff is also in contact with two local workplaces that have been impacted by this situation and will be working with these organizations to contact affected individuals.

“We are reaching out through the media to help us make contact with anyone who may have attended this event,” said Dr. Pepi McTavish, Durham Region Assistant Medical Officer of Health. “It is very important that individuals who participated in this wedding contact us as soon as possible to allow Health Department staff to provide appropriate follow-up.”
