K9 Flex leaves his mark on thief hiding in cornfield

A theft suspect, confronted inside the home of a Clarington residence by the homeowner on Saturday, was eventually tracked down hiding in a cornfield by a K-9 team.

On August 17 at 9 am, officers were called to a residence on Trulls Road south of Taunton Road in Clarington regarding a break and enter in progress. The homeowner reported waking up and locating an unknown male inside his residence. The homeowner gave chase and saw a second suspect running away from his garden shed. The homeowner lost sight of the first suspect in a nearby cornfield.

Numerous officers arrived and set up a perimeter. Two K-9 teams attended and police dog Flex followed a scent through the dense cornfield in rainy conditions. The suspect was located hiding inside the cornfield at 9:35 am. He suffered a minor bite wound during the arrest and was taken to hospital for treatment of a minor injury.

Stolen Goods

Investigators located several gardening tools that had been taken from a storage shed on the property. They also located several items taken from vehicles from a neighbour’s house. The property was returned to its rightful owners. Further investigation tied the suspect to thefts at three LCBO outlets in Oshawa, in which bottles of alcohol were taken.

Whitby Man

Emmanuel Yihun, age 27, of No Fixed Address (Whitby) is facing 30 charges, including: Break and Enter Intent; Theft Under $5,000; Fail to Comply with Probation and Possession of Property Obtained By Crime. He was held for a bail hearing.

The second suspect is described as a male, white, 20-30 years old, about 5’8″ tall, with a skinny build, with long dark hair, wearing a brown T-shirt and dirty pants.
