Fully-loaded dump truck ends up in a ditch

An inexperienced truck driver was charged after rolling his fully-loaded dump truck and trailer into a ditch in Uxbridge Township on Friday.

On August 23 at 4:20 pm., officers were called about a suspected impaired driver on Lakeridge Road in the Township of Uxbridge. One driver had to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid being struck head on by the southbound dump truck.

The dump truck turned west onto Regional Road 47 and moved to the north shoulder near O’Neil Road. The truck pulled onto the soft gravel shoulder to stop, but then tipped over onto its side, spilling its load of sand into the ditch.

The two diesel fuel tanks began leaking and Uxbridge Fire Services attended and were able to control the leak. The Ministry of the Environment was contacted as a precaution to assess the spill. Regional Road 47 was closed for about four hours to pull out the truck and clean up the spill.

Investigation revealed the 40-year-old Brampton male who was driving the vehicle was not impaired, but was inexperienced at driving big rigs. He was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Careless Driving.
