No April Fool’s joke by… or for hammer robber

Neither the would-be robber was joking when he tried to rob a pharmacy in Oshawa on April Fool’s Day, nor the police when they arrested him.

Durham police yesterday said on April 1 at about 10:10 am., the male suspect armed with a hammer entered the Remedy’s RX Pharmacy store on King Street East and made a demand for narcotics. However,he fled the store empty handed and was arrested by members of the DRPS Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Unit who were in the area at the time of the incident, said a police statement.

A female was taken into custody at the scene but it was discovered that she was not involved in the robbery. The victims didn’t sustain any physical injuries, the statement said.

Jessie Power, age 45, of King Street in Oshawa is charged with: Robbery; Disguise with Intent and Possession of Weapon to Commit an Offence. He was held for a bail hearing.
