Knife pulled on man who tried to stop thief

An Ajax male is facing multiple charges after stealing from vehicles on a Bowmanville Street and then pulling a knife on a citizen who confronted him.

On July 24 at about 10:30 pm, officers were dispatched to Champine Square in Bowmanville regarding an unknown male who was entering parked vehicles and stealing items, said a police statement.

When confronted by a resident, the accused pulled out a knife from his waist and pointed it at the victim. Police attended the location and discovered the suspect hiding near a tree. He was arrested without incident and officers recovered the knife, it said.

Victor Izzi, age 19, of Woodhouse Crescent in Ajax is charged with: Theft from Motor Vehicle x4; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x3; Possess Weapons Dangerous; Assault with a Weapon; Trespassing at Night and Public Intoxication. He was held for a bail hearing.

Some of the items recovered included battery chargers, CDs, tools, cables and a coat. Some were reclaimed by the rightful owners that evening. Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2230.
