GO Transit adds 15 more trips on Lakeshore East

Toronto: Fifteen new weekly trips on the Lakeshore East line will be offered midday by GO Transit as part of an effort to bring more rush-hour, midday and evening service to commuters.

Starting September 3, all stations along the Lakeshore East line will have a few more trip options during the weekday, said a GO Transit notice.

“New eastbound trips from Union Station at 2:58 and 3:28 p.m. will serve all stops to Oshawa GO, arriving at 3:56 and 4:26 p.m.

“A new westbound 4:48 p.m. trip from Oshawa GO will serve all stops to Union Station, arriving at 5:50 p.m.

“The westbound 1:52 p.m. trip from Oshawa GO will now depart at 1:53 p.m., make stops at Whitby, Ajax and Pickering then run express to Union, arriving at 2:46 p.m,” the notice said.

The Lakeshore East additions are part of an overall GO Transit expansion that will add 84 more train trips and extend 65 existing train trips each week across the network.

15-minute Service

“We’re delivering on our promise to expand transit in Ontario by offering more service, more trains and more choice for GO customers,” said Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation. “For GO Transit, this means an expansion program that will transform GO into a comprehensive two-way, all-day rapid transit system with service every 15 minutes on core segments of the network.”

Metrolinx President and CEO Phil Verster said: “Offering nearly 150 new and extended weekly GO train trips means our customers have more options to travel when they want to go.”

  • Starting August 31, 2019, Metrolinx will add 84 new weekly GO train trips across the Kitchener, Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West GO train lines and extend 65 weekly trips across the Lakeshore West and Kitchener lines, including reinstating evening train service on the Stouffville line.
  • When these new and extended train trips go into service, Metrolinx will have increased GO train service by eight per cent over the past year.
  • The new train service includes 15 new weekly trips on the Lakeshore East line will be offered midday.
  • 50 weekly train trips on the Kitchener line, bringing late-night weekday service between Kitchener GO and Toronto’s Union Station and hourly weekday evening service between the City of Brampton and Union Station.
  • The existing 6 pm trip on the Kitchener line from Union Station will now run express to Bramalea GO before continuing to Kitchener GO. Customers travelling to Bloor, Weston, Etobicoke North and Malton GO stations can take a new 5:45 p.m. trip from Union Station.
  • On the Lakeshore West line, there will be new year-round weekend GO train service between Niagara Falls and Union Station.
  • Customers travelling out of West Harbour GO will have twice as many options during weekday rush-hour periods, with three existing trips extended to serve the station and a new 4:45 p.m. trip from Union Station running express to Clarkson GO before serving all stops to West Harbour GO.
  • Evening train service on the Stouffville line from Union Station, which was suspended for important construction work along the corridor, will be reinstated and extended to Mount Joy GO.
