A 44-year-old male was arrested after allegations that he sexually assaulted a young female as she walked home in Whitby, said Durham Police.
In early September 2019, the 16-year-old girl was walking home from shopping when she was approached by the unknown male. The male forced her to the back of a commercial premise where he sexually assaulted the victim, said a police media release.
An employee of the store asked them to leave the premise and the suspect followed the victim to her home. The suspect followed her into her residence but a family member removed him from the home. The incident was reported to police on Monday, December 16, said the release.
The suspect from Whitby is charged with: Sexual Assault. He was held for a bail hearing.
Investigators want to ensure there are no other victims.
