Friend charged with murder of Whitby’s Melanie Vachon

A man has been arrested for the murder of Melanie Vachon, whose body was been found near Lake Ontario shore last year.

The victim Melanie Vachon was reported missing on May 18, 2018 and her remains were located near the waterfront trail near Water Street in Whitby on June 2, 2018.

On August 7, 2019, homicide investigators arrested a 44-year-old male in connection with her death. The suspect and the victim were known to each other and involved in a relationship.

Jeffrey Weldon, age 44 of Whitby is charged with Second Degree Murder and Improper/Indecent Interference with a Dead Body.

The murder of Vachon would now bring the total number of homicides investigated by the DRPS in 2018 to 11.

  • Lisa Hickey I don’t know either person but I’m happy they caught her killer. So many going missing and never found. Hopefully some closure for her family. Both their Facebook accounts are open. The victim has a picture of the two of them from 2012 on fb. That’s so so so sad and heart breaking. Great work DRPS!
