Man crashes car into Oshawa retirement home

An 18-year old Oshawa male is facing charges after a vehicle he was operating crashed into a retirement home in Oshawa, Durham police said yesterday.

On  June 14 just after 9 pm, a male was observed driving a BMW at a high rate of speed through the Cineplex parking lot at Benson Street and Taunton Road in Oshawa. The vehicle became airborne before bouncing off the ground and striking the side of a retirement home located on Benson Street, said a police statement.

Police attended and the male was arrested and charged. The building sustained extensive damage and an estimate of damages is being determined. There were no injuries as a result of the collision, it added.

Braydon Finn of Oshawa is charged with Impaired Operation and Dangerous Operation. He was released on an OIC Undertaking.

Oshawa Fire Services said no injuries were reported. Crews had to shore up the building to make it safe.

Oshawa Fire Services also added yesterday a person on scene suffered serious burns to the upper body caused by an illegal burn.

Oshawa Fire reminds you that open air burning is not allowed in Oshawa City, it added.
