Man greets police with loaded rifle, arrested

A 32-year-old Cannington male is facing firearm charges after he was seen with a loaded rifle on a residential driveway.

On September 11 at 9:11 pm, officers from the Community Resource Unit in North Division were completing a compliance check at a residence on Maple Beach Road in Beaverton. While approaching the residence, the officers witnessed a male exit a vehicle parked in the driveway, said a police statement.

He crouched down beside the open passenger door of the vehicle holding the rifle. Officers ordered the male to drop the firearm and he complied. The male was arrested without incident, police said.

Ronald Wretham, age 32 of Country Lane in Cannington, has been charged with five firearms charges including: Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Careless Storage of a Firearm. He was held for a bail hearing.
