Man stabbed several times, suspect surrenders

Durham Police have charged an Ajax man with attempted murder after a stabbing incident in Oshawa on Saturday.

On December 7 at 4:30 pm, officers were called to a disturbance inside the Smoker Ways convenience store on King Street East in Oshawa. A enraged male had beguan knocking over shelves. The male then left the store and got into a physical altercation with a second male outside, said a police media release.

During the fight, the victim’s cellphone fell to the ground. The suspect grabbed the phone and began walking away. When the victim confronted the accused, he rushed at the 53-year-old victim and stabbed him several times, it added.

Officers arrived and located the victim in the north part of the parking lot. He was rushed to a Toronto trauma centre with multiple, serious injuries and is in stable condition. Officers searched the area, but no arrests were made.

The suspect attended the front desk of Central East Division in downtown Oshawa on Sunday at around 5:30 pm and turned himself in.

Tyler Dupont, age 26, of Knapton Avenue in Ajax has been charged with: Attempt Murder; Robbery; Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Mischief. He was held for a bail hearing.
