Man throws Molotov cocktail at neighbor’s home

Durham police said a 31-year-old male has been arrested after throwing a Molotov cocktail and starting a fire at his neighbor’s house in Oshawa.

On May 27 at about 8:45 pm, members of Central East Division responded with fire services to a home near Wolfe Street and Simcoe Street South in Oshawa for a fire at a residence. The fire, which was set by the suspect, was quickly extinguished by neighbors. The suspect fled back to his residence next door, where he refused to come out for police, said a police media statement.

The statement said uniform officers and Investigators of the Central East Criminal Investigations Bureau with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit, eventually took the suspect into custody after a lengthy negotiation. Police executed a search warrant and seized numerous imitation firearms, quantity of incendiary devices and materials from inside the residence.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, it added.

Robert Mackinnon of Oshawa, has been charged with: Arson – Disregard for Human Life, Arson – Damage to Property; Possession of Incendiary Device x5 and Attempt Arson.

He was held for a bail hearing.
