New covid cases drop to 28, no new deaths

Durham Health yesterday posted 28 new Covid-19 cases for February 24, taking the region’s tally to 11,738 since the count began on February 29.

No new covid death was reported. There have been 9 covid deaths in February, 45 in January, 53 in December and 5 in November. Durham’s overall death toll stands at 295 with 217 of them occurring in LTCs.

There were:

  • 10 new cases in Pickering
  • 8 in Ajax
  • 5 in Whitby, and
  • 5 in Oshawa

Recoveries stand at 11,180 (11,144), up by 36. There are 263 active covid cases.

Twenty-two cases are hospitalized with 11 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 241 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 3,393 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 295              LTC – 217

Of the 99 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTC
Of the 49 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Forty-five deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 48 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
Fourteen deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
Sixteen deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
No deaths have been reported in Brock
