DRPS officer charged for ‘punching’ prisoner

A Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officer has been charged with assault after a confrontation occurred with a prisoner in the central cell block.

The incident occurred on Friday, July 12 in the sally port at Central East Division in Oshawa. A prisoner was being escorted into the cell area when the officer allegedly punched him. The prisoner was not seriously injured in the assault.

Paul McCurbin, age 55, a sergeant currently assigned to the DRPS Court Services Branch, has been charged with Assault. He was released on a Promise to Appear before an O.I.C. He has been reassigned to other duties.
