Pickering 101 challenges residents to get savvy

The City of Pickering said its free eight-week program on local government is back for its fifth year.

Through weekly, two-hour classes, city staff experts provide participants with the knowledge they need to understand, and actively engage in, the planning and processes behind the facilities, services, events, and programs that touch their everyday lives, said a city statement.

“With a number of transformational projects taking place in Pickering, it is imperative that we educate and encourage residents to get involved in shaping our community,” said Mayor Dave Ryan. “One subject particularly top of mind right now is the development process. Through Pickering 101, residents can learn the ins and outs of this process, leaving them better informed and motivated to participate.”

The program will run on Wednesday evenings, from April 1 – May 20. Interested applicants must be residents of Pickering, must commit to attending all eight classes, and must not be a past graduate of the program.
