Pickering confirms seven covid-related deaths

The Cit of Pickering is the only municipality in Durham to provide the number of Covid-19 related deaths, which as of yesterday stood at seven.

“We need our community to do their part to protect our healthcare system. Stay home. Be safe,” said a city tweet, retweeted by Mayor Dave Ryan.

Meanwhile, Durham Region Health Department yesterday said 531 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the region since February 29.

The count on April 16 had stood at 496 cases.

Of the total cases, 26 are hospitalized. There have been 40 deaths. Recoveries number 176.

Durham Health yesterday updated the community-wide breakdown with the highest number of cases [151] in Ajax followed by 149 in Pickering and 108 in Oshawa.
