Pickering Crash: 21-year old dead, gun seized from scene

A 21-year-old driver was pronounced dead after a collision Tuesday night on Kingston Road in Pickering.

On August 2 at about 11:08 pm, members of West Division were called to Kingston Road, east of Liverpool Road for a two-vehicle collision. The vehicles, a silver BMW and a black Honda were travelling westbound on Kingston Road when they made contact, the BMW, is believed to have been travelling at a high rate of speed, lost control, left the roadway and struck several trees before coming to rest, said a police statement.

The driver of the BMW was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police also located a loaded firearm at the scene. A passenger fled from the BMW, but was arrested by officers nearby. The passenger suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. The occupants of the Honda did not sustain any injuries, police said.

A 17-year-old male of Ajax, is charged with: Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Car; Possess Prohibited Firearm No Licence; Possess Prohibited Firearm Knowing No Licence; Possess Prohibited Device; Possess Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm and Possess Firearm Knowing Serial Number Has Been Tampered With.

He was released on an Undertaking.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
