Police identify Oshawa shawarma thief

The robbery suspect from the Shawarma 401 incident in Oshawa has been identified, Durham police said yesterday.

Investigators had released a surveillance photo of a suspect who robbed an Oshawa restaurant last week but, withdrew it after he was identified.

“We will have an update to follow. Thanks for all the tips,” said a police tweet yesterday.

On February 3 at about 1:30 am, the victim was in the process of closing the Shawarma 401 restaurant on Wilson Road North. The suspect asked to come in to warm up for a few minutes. The victim allowed him into the restaurant and this was when the suspect, armed with a knife, made a demand for cash. The suspect eventually left the store empty-handed, said a police media release.

Members of Central East Division attended and searched the area with negative results.

The victim didn’t suffer any physical injuries.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to contact the DRPS Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.
