‘Burza’ bags second largest Fentanyl seizure

A drug trafficking investigation by the Drug Enforcement Unit has resulted in one arrest and the second largest seizure of fentanyl in Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) history.

On Friday, December 20, members of the DRPS Drug Enforcement Unit concluded a drug trafficking investigation dubbed Project Burza, which resulted in the seizure of some 14.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 2.5 kilograms of crystal meth, 2.8 kilograms of cocaine and one kilogram of MDMA, which has an estimated value of $ 1.5 million. Five search warrants were executed at different locations in Toronto, York and Durham. Investigators also recovered a loaded firearm, ammunition and $70,000 in Canadian currency, said a police media release.

The Dung Nguyen, age 41, of Kingshill Road in Richmond Hill is charged with: Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x4; Careless Storage of a Firearm; Store Firearm Contrary to Regulations; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Possession of Firearm Knowing Possession Unauthorized and Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition Readily Available. He was held for a bail hearing.
