Road restrictions in Ajax, Pickering, Whitby…

The are road restrictions from Pickering in the east across Durham to Clarington, according to municipal announcements.

Taunton Road – Pickering

  • When: Ongoing until June 2020.
  • Where: Taunton Road, between Sideline 22 and Whites Road (Regional Road 38), in Seaton (Pickering).
  • Why: To complete roadwork, median interlocking and landscaping.

Note: Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.

Marksbury Road closure

Marksbury Road will be temporarily closed at the south limits including the cul-de-sac to facilitate the replacement of the storm sewer outfall structure.

  • When: Monday, March 2 to Friday, May 1

The City’s Contractor, Esposito Bros. Ltd. (Tender No. T2020-6), will undertake the replacement of the existing deteriorated corrugated metal pipe and gabion basket storm sewer outfall at the south limits of Marksbury Road (see map below). The work includes a new asphalt roadway, concrete curb and gutter, as well as, installation of new steel beam protection system guide rail. All boulevards and areas affected by this construction will restored to their existing conditions.

Cameron Street and Sherwood Road West – Ajax

A new sidewalk is being constructed in conjunction with the Region of Durham watermain works in the area. Construction is anticipated to begin Spring of 2020.

In preparation for the construction, contractor will begin clearing and trimming trees on Cameron Street and Sherwood Road West. Privately planted trees within the public right-of-way will be removed and residents will receive a separate tree removal notice if this applies.

Residents have been asked to ensure that all fixtures and equipment such as irrigation systems, light fixtures and fences within the public right-of-way (the area beyond the property line) are removed. The town said it will not be responsible to repair the damage of existing lawn sprinkler/irrigation systems or other fixtures or equipment installed by residents within the public right-of way.

South Blair Street and Victoria Street – Whitby

Lanes will be reduced at the intersection of South Blair Street and Victoria Street in Whitby next weekend, as the Region of Durham installs a new watermain.

  • When: Saturday, February 29 at 7 am until Sunday, March 1 at 5 pm.
  • Why: To safely install a new watermain.

Note: The Region realizes that the work is disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Maple Grove Road closed due to drifting snow

Maple Grove Road between Highway 2 and Baseline Road in Clarington will remain closed until further notice due to drifting snow and poor visibility.
