Several Durham city, town websites go down

Was it a cyber glitch, attack or an infectious bug [one other is going around these days], but at least four Durham municipalities yesterday reported that their websites were down – around the same time.

Before noon yesterday, the websites of the City of Pickering, the towns of Ajax and Whitby, and the Municipality of Clarington, went down.

They, of course, managed to get them back up, but did not release any further information or what caused the downtime.

The City of Pickering later tweeted: “Update: Our website, http://pickering.ca, is now available. Thank you for your patience!”

Earlier, it said: “Our website is down due to a major system outage. We appreciate your patience while we work to get back online as quickly as we can! Please connect with our Customer Care team if you need to get in touch…”

Similarly, the Town Of Ajax reported: “Update: http://Ajax.ca is back online!”

Earlier, Ajax had tweeted: “Police cars revolving light Alert: http://Ajax.ca is currently down. Our web site provider is experiencing a major system outage. They are working to resolve the issue. We will provide updates as they are available.”

The Town of Whitby, said: “We’re back online! Thanks again for your patience.”

Earlier, it tweeted: “Our http://whitby.ca website is currently experiencing an outage. We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience!”

Clarington too reported a downtime.

“Clarington is currently experiencing technical issues with our website http://clarington.net. We are working with our provider to resolve as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience as we work to resolve this problem.”
