Toronto: An investigation into the distribution of child sexual abuse material over the internet has led to the arrest of a man who attended places of worship frequented by members of the Filipino community.
William (Wil) Christopher Claveria, 32, is facing 22 charges related to sexual interference and child pornography investigation, said Detective Constable Don Bai of Sex Crimes.
“We are asking anyone who had contact with Mr. Claveria to reach out to us,” he said. “We are especially urging those who attended a place of worship with Mr. Claveria or whose children may have been around him to contact us. We are also encouraging people to assist us in understanding which other places of worship Mr. Claveria may have attended.”
The Toronto Police Service’s Child Exploitation Section launched the investigation on March 29. On June 12, they executed a criminal code search warrant at the suspect’s residence in the Bathurst St. and Sheppard Ave. W. area.
As a result of evidence found during the search, Claveria was arrested.
D/Const. Don Bai said videos of the suspect sexually assaulting children were discovered after investigators analyzed seized electronic devices.
“To date, we have identified three children in these videos,” said Bai.
It is alleged that in 2018, children were sexually assaulted by a man attending ‘Word And Life Christian Assembly’, located at 500 Coldstream Avenue.
It is further alleged that in 2018, children were sexually assaulted by a man attending the ‘Jesus Reigns Forever International Ministry’, located at 1177 Finch Avenue West, in Toronto.
William Claveria was arrested and charged with:
1) Two counts of Possession Child Pornography
2) Two counts of Access Child Pornography
3) Distribute Child Pornography
4) Five counts of Sexual Assault
5) Five counts of Sexual Interference
6) Six counts of Make Child Pornography
7) Voyeurism
He is to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue East, on Friday, July 5 at 10 am, room 306.
