Students hit by bear spray in Oshawa?

Two students walking to school in Oshawa were accosted by an unknown male yesterday, who sprayed them with what appeared to be bear repellent.

On March 9 at about 8:30 am, a 15-year-old male was walking to school along with a 16-year-old female friend. At the corner of Adelaide Avenue East and Harmony Road North, an unknown male approached them and started spraying the male student with a substance similar to bear spray, said a Durham police media release.

The unknown male then ran away into Easton Park. The 16-year-old female friend was also contaminated by the spray. Both were taken to hospital with eye irritation and later released.

The suspect is described as a male, 6′ tall, Southeast Asian, 20-25 years old, with a slender build, wearing a red toque, beige sweatshirt and black pants.

Officers arrived at the scene and searched the area, but no arrests were made. Anyone with information as to the identity of the unknown male is asked to contact East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1687.
