Suspicious package on bus rendered safe

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) tactical officers yesterday rendered safe a suspicious package that was left on a public transport bus.

“Police are investigating a suspicious package found on a transit bus,” said a police tweet yesterday.

The bus was stopped at Taunton Road and Anderson in Whitby.

Police closed off the area while the DRPS tactical team’s Explosive Disposal Unit investigated.

Police asked drivers to avoid the area and use an alternate route.

Later, it announced that: “Thanks to our Explosive Disposal Unit and tactical officers who rendered the package safe… we are clearing the area. Thanks for everyone’s patience.”
