Two girls followed by a stranger in Oshawa

Durham police yesterday said officers are investigating after two young girls reported being approached and followed on Tuesday by an unknown male in Oshawa.

On August 25 at about 6 pm, police were called to the area of Grandview Avenue and Taunton Road in Oshawa for an unknown trouble call. Two girls, aged 10 and 12, reported they were sitting on the grass outside a plaza when an unknown male exited his vehicle and began talking to them, asking their names and ages, said a police statement.

The girls rode away on their bicycles toward a nearby wooded area and say they looked back to see the male following them on foot. They became scared, left their bikes and began to run. The girls called 911 and attended a nearby residence to await police, the statement said.

Police searched the area with negative results. The girls were not physically harmed.

The suspect is described as: male, South Asian, approximately 5’7″ tall. He had black hair and was wearing an orange shirt and black shorts. He was also wearing a black hat backwards and a yellow or orange bandana under the hat.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Jeff Hilliard of the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1657.
