Two Whitby community organizations have been awarded $25,000 grant from the Mayor’s Community Development Fund (MCDF). They are – Feed the Need and Catholic Family Services of Durham.
The two Lead Cause grants were made possible by the proceeds from the 2019 Mayor’s Golf Tournament, held on August 7. The MCDF provides financial support to local community groups, events and initiatives that help contribute to Whitby as a vibrant and caring community.
$25,000 was made available to Feed the Need to help their efforts to collect, store, and distribute fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food and goods to local hunger relief organizations (food banks, emergency shelters, soup kitchens, food pantries, and school nutrition programs). The funds will help provide over 100,000 meals to those in need.
$25,000 was given as grant to Catholic Family Services of Durham – to support “The Hope Centre” and its community hubs that bring together service providers to offer a range of services such as individual, family, couple and group therapy, crisis support and transitional housing services based on community needs.
