Whiff of cannabis leads to loaded gun seizure

Durham police said yesterday that a traffic stop has led to one more firearm being taken off the streets.

On June 5, 2020, at about 1 am, members of West Division were on general patrol when they stopped a vehicle in the area of Ritchie Avenue and Wright Crescent in Ajax. The officers detected an odour of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle, said a police media release.

After further investigation, a loaded revolver was located. The driver and passenger were arrested.

Jovan Charles, age 27 of No Fixed Address, and Ashley Farrell, age 26 of Kingston Road West, in Ajax, are both facing various firearm charges including: Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Firearm and Careless Storage of a Firearm. Both were held for bail hearings.
