Whitby cancels town events until June 30

The Town of Whitby is extending the cancellation of its events, town-supported events and third-party event permits until June 30, 2020, with a possibility of further extensions.

The decision was made in light of the Covid-19 public health crisis and provincial order to prohibit organized public events and social gatherings of more than five people, said a town statement.

“Right now, health officials advise that staying home, practicing physical distancing and avoiding social gatherings are critical to stopping the spread of Covid-19,” said Matt Gaskell, Chief Administrative Officer. “We will continue to re-assess event cancellations as the situation evolves.”

The town will be contacting all event organizers to advise them of the cancellation and will work with them to determine a potential future date, where possible, or issue a full refund for permit fees, said a statement.
