Whitby, Oshawa Labour Day holiday schedule

Whitby: The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department is reminding residents of changes to scheduled curbside Blue Box collection due to the Labour Day Holiday.

When: September 2 to 7.

Where: Residents in the City of Oshawa and the Town of Whitby will temporarily have their collection moved to the following day.

This means that residents with collection scheduled for Monday, September 2 will temporarily have their collection moved to Tuesday, September 3. This shift will continue throughout the week with collection scheduled for Friday, September 6 moved to Saturday, September 7.

Garbage and green bin collection for Oshawa and Whitby residents is the responsibility of the individual municipalities, not the Region of Durham. These residents are asked to check their waste calendars or contact their local municipality regarding collection of these items.

Why: These changes are taking place in observance of Labour Day, on September 2.

Note: Residents are reminded to have Blue Box materials at the curb by 7 am on the day of collection.

Oshawa Holiday Hours

Service Oshawa will be closed on Monday, September 2 for Labour Day. Customer Service Representatives will be on hand at Service Oshawa Saturday, August 31 from 9 am. to 1 pm.

Waste Services: There will be no waste collection service on Labour Day, Monday, September 2. For the remainder of the week following the holiday, waste collection will occur one day later than regular collection service. To avoid being missed, place waste at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. the day of collection on clear portions of your driveway.

Recreation Facilities and Fitness Centres: Recreation facilities will be operating on a holiday schedule on Labour Day, offering modified schedules for leisure swimming.

  • Delpark Homes Centre will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Camp Samac Outdoor Pool will be open for public swims from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with free admission
  • Rotary Outdoor Pool will be open for a lane swim from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and for a public swim from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with free admission

Whitby Labour Day Holiday Schedule

Due to Labour Day, Town Hall will close at 4:30 pm on Friday, August 30, and will reopen at 8:30 am on Tuesday, September 3.

The McKinney Centre, Whitby Civic Recreation Complex and the Iroquois Park Sports Centre (including Anne Ottenbrite Pool) will also be closed on Monday, September 2. Luther Vipond Memorial Arena will also be closed until Saturday, September 7.

Additionally, the Whitby Seniors’ Activity Centre and the Brooklin Community Centre and Library will be closed from Sunday, September 1 to Monday, September 2.

Whitby Public Library: The Central Library and Brooklin Branch will be closed Sunday, September 1 to Monday, September 2. Both library branches will also be closed Sundays throughout the summer until September 1, with Sunday hours resuming on September 8. Waste Collection: There will be no waste collection services on Monday, September 2. For the week of September 2, garbage and green bin collection has been moved forward one day after your regular pick up day.
